One person, several machines, and a habit of writing things down

I am not a company. There is no team, no newsroom and no content calendar. This site is one person's working notes about keeping Windows machines pleasant to use, published because the notes turned out to be more useful to other people than they were to me.

What you will find here

Long-form write-ups about debloating, optimizing and customizing Windows 10 and 11 — sometimes with an open-source settings utility, often by hand. Where I have measurements I publish them, including the ones that show a change did nothing. Where I broke something, I say so and explain how I put it back.

What you will not find

• Downloads or software. Nothing is hosted, mirrored, repackaged or distributed here, and this site does not tell you where to obtain any program. It is writing, nothing else.
• Sponsored posts. Nobody has paid for a mention. If that ever changes, the disclosure will be at the top of the page, not in the footer.
• Claims I cannot support. No "double your FPS", no "make Windows 10× faster". Most tweaks are worth a few percent, and several are worth nothing at all.

How I test

Everything is tried on hardware I own, at my own expense, before it is written about. Benchmarks are run at least five times per configuration with the first run discarded, on the same drivers and the same day. Sample sizes are small — one person, a handful of machines — and I try to say so rather than generalise from them.
